In mere seconds, 5 of my 7 ships exploded, turning into fireballs of plasma, or rings of light as drives went critical.
Since they weren't firing anything (there's a considerable delay between missile salvos, and their point defense range is limited), I didn't pick them up again until I was practically on top of them, and their massive but short-ranged point defense batteries opened up on me.
I was using my speed to keep myself at maximum beam range from the two task forces I could see, but I'd lost track of one of their biggest task forces - their Indirect Fire force, with a sizeable point-defense escort. I destroyed several ships, and even forced 2 of the task forces to retreat with heavy losses.īut then disaster struck. The opening rounds went well - I took an oblique approach across where I expected to find him, pounded a few ships into scrap when I picked up his first task force, and destroyed the first wave of missiles and fighters taking only some armor damage in the process. In the red corner, wearing gears and microchips, the Cynoid empire, led and commanded by Xentax. I don't really have a "whole game" summary worth writing up yet, but I'll share one of the battles I had that was "great fun".įun as it was, it actually ended in a draw, time ran out before either side was destroyed or retreated all of its forces.
