Given how popular Bethesda titles are, and how mods have kept the community passionately engaged with those titles, many users are questioning Sony’s judgement here. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. Bethesda expressed how frustrating the decision is: This effectively makes mods for Fallout 4 and Skyrim Xbox exclusives at this point.
In a post on its website, Bethesda announced today that the console-maker won’t allow mods on its PlayStation, at least not “the way they should work”. Unfortunately, it looks like that optimism was misplaced, at least on Sony’s side of the aisle. In other words, those relying on Microsoft’s or Sony’s boxes would finally get some of the features that PC gamers had always held over their heads.
Later, the game maker announced a remastered edition of Skyrim, one that would bring user mods to consoles.
